When Alex Dale, the MD of The Winery of Good Hope, mentioned to us early in 2007 that the company would like to create a Trust for the previously disadvantage individuals (PDI) of the company, which would pay for schooling and education for our children, I was dumb struck! I never imagined that I would never have to worry about funds for my children’s education.
I’ve been working for The Winery of Good Hope since 2000 and I have the utmost respect and gratitude towards Alex. He is one of the most thoughtful, caring and driven people I know. I am who I am today, because he believed in me and presented opportunities to show my true potential.
Alicia is turning 6 at the end of July and she is currently doing Grade R at Cottage Kids. Next year she will be going to Hendrik Louw Primary School to start her primary school years. Alicia is a go getter and she adores being out side in nature and LOVES animals.
Charlin has started High school at Hottentots Holland High and is blooming on the sports front! He is excelling in cricket, rugby and soccer. He is finding the academics of high school very difficult. Luckily for him the high school he is attending is called the ‘the school of hearts” and the teachers go all out for their students. I am confident that he will make it through with dedications and determinations.
“ Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself”.

Since last year we have been trying to get Christopher enrolled at a technical school seeing that he excelled at a technical level. He is currently at Vaalpark High School. Without the financial assistance from the Land of Hope Trust I would not have been able to place him at this school. The first week at the school they had an initiation ceremony which made me uncomfortable at first but after hearing how exited he was and the friends he made in his first week I felt pleased that we could place him in such a school.
He is thoroughly enjoying his new environment and I can in al honesty say that we finally managed to match him to a school that suits his specific needs.
Lechet is growing into a nice young lady. Because of the financial support from the Land of Hope Trust she is excelling in school and has grown in confidence. We are already applying to have her enrolled at Stellenbosch University. Her desire is to study in the social welfare and development service and ultimately be able to help young girls trapped in social economic difficulty. For the moment she loves hanging with her friends and taking frequent trips to the mall.

It has directly affected us where by our children reap the benefits of this project. It offers our children opportunities that were not there for us. They will be able to become anything they want to be through this project. There will be many changes in their lives in the future to come through this project.
Thanks Land of Hope in making our dream a reality.

I started working for The Winery of Good Hope about two years ago. When I heard about the mission of the Land of Hope Trust and what it entails I was very excited. When I was approached to partake herein my heart leapt because for the first time ever I would not have to worry about my daughters’ educational needs. Before becoming a beneficiary, I struggled to make ends meet and I had to sacrifice other needs to make space for Nicole’s educational needs. Being a beneficiary gave me peace of mind to know that her future would be taken care of where her education is concerned. Every parent wants to give their children the best of everything but due to the cost of living it is not always possible. Nicole loves dancing and I always wanted to send her to a dance school where she would be able to live her dream. Financially I could not afford this. Now through the help of the Land of Hope trust we are already looking for dance studios in the vicinity and hope to enroll her soonest. I am very grateful to be part of the Land of Hope Trust because through this Trust I believe that dreams do come true.

Education is costly and higher education is the most costly of all. But it is an investment and it help strengthening and expanding a better life for people.
Education develops the intellect; and the intellect distinguishes man from other creatures. Therefore Land of Hope gives me hope when it comes to education.

I am the youngest beneficiary of the Land of Hope trust. Being involved in the trust opened my eyes to how important education is. Also, I learnt that to be able to afford a good education means that I should educate myself. Currently I am doing should courses to better my computer skills. I'm finally getting my drivers licence and also sharpening my social skills. One day I would like to be able to provide to my family. One day I will encourage my child to educate himself to the best of his abilities. Being a beneficiary of the trust will make it easier to do this. I hope to send him/her to the best school and thereafter to the best university. I believe that a good education is one of the best gifts a father can give his child.
It is always exited being a member of the trust and hope to be involved for a long time still.

I joined the company two years ago and have been permanently employed since January 2010. When I first started I thought I might not stand a chance of permanent employment because of my age. Luckily my previous experience, attention to detail and mature professionalism filled a specific spot at the warehouse. Since this year the Land of hope trust has approached me to join in the benefits of working towards uplifting previously disadvantages people. Seeing that both my son and daughter are self reliant and I don’t have any dependants we had to come up with another way of ensuring that I also reap the benefit of being part of the Trust. For this purpose the trust has committed itself to contribute to my medical insurance. I now have peace of mind that whatever medical emergency might happen, I would have the best medical care available.
Thank you Land of Hope trust, you took a weight off my shoulder.
